Tenho um carinho muito especial pelo Sporting onde joguei 17 anos. Nos dois jogos contra o Sporting marquei nos dois, mas consideram-me um jogador da casa, respeitam-me bastante e isso para mim é o mais importante», referiu.
Um prémio que chega numa altura em que o Sporting declarou Carlos Queirós, treinador-adjunto do Manchester United, «persona non grata» pelas declarações que produziu sobre o presidente do clube, Filipe Soares Franco. «Isso são coisas que passam. Toda a gente sabe que o Queirós defende o clube onde está, defende as suas cores. Fez um grande trabalho em Portugal, não só no Sporting, mas também na Selecção Nacional», comentou. Uma «guerra» de palavras assente no alegado interesse do clube de Old Trafford em Miguel Veloso. «Já referi que todos os bons jogadores são bem-vindos a este clube, não só o Miguel, mas mais vinte ou trinta jogadores. O internacional português analisou ainda o recente sorteio do Euro-2008 que colocou a Suíça, República Checa e Turquia no caminho de Portugal. «As equipas são todas equilibradas. Quando as pessoas dizem que Portugal é o favorito e apanhou um grupo fácil, eu não concordo com isso. É um grupo equilibrado, com grandes equipas e, como tal, temos de respeitar bastante. Mas temos um grupo de bons jogadores, temos uma equipa bastante boa e temos condições para passar a primeira fase», destacou.
